University Of Toronto Mauritian Society

President’s Message

Greetings!

On behalf of everyone in the Executive Team, I would like to welcome you all for the 2009-2010 academic year here at the University of Toronto. I hope that you are as excited as us and are looking forward to spending the upcoming academic year with your fellow Exec’s and friends from the University of Toronto Mauritian Society (UTMS).

Over the years, UTMS has become increasingly successful in bringing Mauritian and non-Mauritian students at U of T together. By planning social events in various parts of Toronto, UTMS encourages its members to go beyond the academic aspect of university life, and explore other opportunities that a city such as Toronto offers, leading to a more fulfilling university experience. Moreover, collaborations between UTMS and Club M, the Mauritian Association at York (MAAY), and the Ryerson Mauritian Society (RMS) have allowed us to reach out to individuals outside of U of T as well. The results are an ever growing membership base, an increased ability to promote Mauritius as well as the Mauritian culture both university-wide and across Toronto, and of course, more exciting and fun events.

As UTMS President for the 2009-2010 academic year, I hope to inspire people on the importance of keeping our Mauritian identity and revamp the club by introducing “fresh” events throughout the year. The objective of these events will be to contribute to the members’ learning experience by helping them discover new activities and places in a culturally familiar ambience. As in the past years, UTMS will organize some joint events with Club M, MAAY and RMS. All the more, with the help and dedication of my executive team, I am committed to bringing UTMS members the best possible experience and make this year memorable for all of us.

I look forward to meeting you all and I wish you all the best in the upcoming year!

Kind Regards,
Christina Leung
President
